#Yahoo email keeps asking for password professional#
Windows XP professional SP3 Firefox 3.6.18 (due to Firefox 4 incompatible with Zonealarm firewall at present) I would appreciate help in understanding what is going on and the best and safest way to proceed. Also, this is the account I use for all business and most social contacts. I use it as a filing system for a number of business and personal e-mails.
For now I am checking my Yahoo e-mail despite the warning.

I do not plan to change my password until I have a clearer understanding of the situation. Googling this issue or reading within Yahoo help basically yields a variety of responses from different people, from "this is spam" to "this is legitimately from Yahoo." Part of me wonders, if my account IS compromised, how do I know that this request will not lead to further problems. This has never happened to me before on any account so I want to make sure that the request from Yahoo is legitimate before I enter my password. There was a delay of several days between opening her e-mail and then getting the Yahoo password window. I am wondering if this somehow has now infected my Yahoo account. It was from her real account but it was clear her account has been infected when I opened the e-mail, which turned out to be spam. Thinking about this, I opened an e-mail a few days ago from a friend who is traveling in Thailand. So far I have done an Avast boot-time scan of everything, no infection, Malwarebytes scan of everything, no infection, looked over my zonealarm logs, checked Belarc to see if security is up to date (it is), cleared the cache several times and logged into Yahoo via other means than the bookmark. I was able to proceed to my Yahoo e-mail but was warned that I was at risk if I did so. I went to check my yahoo e-mail account as usual, via my Firefox bookmark, and a window came up saying "We believe your account has been compromised" and asked me to create a new password. When setting up the email account in Outlook you are best to set it up manually, using "other" and ensure that you are using the correct settings as per this link. This began last night.

When entering the settings, make sure that in the Outgoing server you do not use the "use same as incoming" for the email address and password. If it does then move onto the next device if you have one. If that works you should wait at least an hour to allow the servers to sync and then add the new password to Outlook remembering to remove any characters you may have added and again check it works. Once you have done that, change your email password and check that you can access your email via webmail (on a browser). If you have deleted the account and it is no longer on your device do not try and add it at this time. The easiest way of doing that is to turn them off or add a couple of characters to the email address so that it is not checking your account. You should stop any other devices from checking for email. Having said that it may be worth changing your password to see if that "kicks" things back into life. If your email account can receive emails and you can send and receive using webmail there is obviously nothing wrong with your email password.
